Four Red Storm Sprinters Set to Compete at NCAA East Preliminaries

Leah Anderson headlines the group traveling to Bloomington, Ind.
QUEENS, N.Y.- After stellar performances at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 13-14, four members of the St. John's women's track and field program will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to take part in the NCAA East Preliminaries. Individual women's track events will begin on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with the quarterfinals and semifinals coming on Saturday. The relay events will take place on Saturday.

This marks the 30th consecutive season that at least one athlete has qualified for the NCAA Championships. The four qualifiers marks the most for the Red Storm since 2016 when it sent four individuals and one relay team to the regional qualifiers.

For the third consecutive season, Leah Anderson will take part in the preliminary round of the NCAA Championships. Anderson qualified for the 200 and 400-meter dashes with times of 23.42 and 51.92, respectively, at the BIG EAST Championships. In 2021, Anderson set a then-personal best mark of 52.68 in the 400 meters, placing 17th.

Tatyana McKenzie will make her NCAA Championship debut in the 100 and 200-meter races. McKenzie put on a show at the BIG EAST Championships, picking up an individual title in the 100 with a time of 11.81. McKenzie followed up with a silver medal in the 200-meter sprint, posting a 23.63.

Skyy Diop will also compete in the preliminaries for the first time in St. John's career, participating alongside Anderson in the 400-meter dash. Diop qualified for the meet with a time of 53.38 at the BIG EAST Championships.

Mandana Vouillemin will join Anderson, Diop and McKenzie to take part in the 4x400-meter relay race. The quartet captured the conference title with a time of 3:39.30.

Athletes with the top 12 times in each event and the best 12 relay teams in both the East and West Preliminaries will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8.
