Seven Johnnies to Compete at ITA Northeast Regionals

Red Storm to play in tournament with 20 Division I programs hosted at Princeton
QUEENS, N.Y. – Seven St. John's women's tennis players have earned a spot in this weekend's ITA Northeast Regionals at Princeton.
The Red Storm will meet 20 other Division I programs from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania over a three-day span from Sept. 30- Oct. 2. The tournament features a 64-player singles bracket and 48 doubles teams.
Five Johnnies- Willa Bay Breunich Lalita Devarakonda, Yesica de Lucas, Emilie Haakansson and Jayden Nielsenwill participate in singles play. Pairings of Mouna Bouzgarrou and Haakansson and Camila Ordonez and Devarakonda will take part in the doubles competition.
The top finishers will clinch a spot in ITA Super Regionals, which is scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at Yale in New Haven, Conn.
Three Red Storm players- Bouzgarrou and the pairing of de Lucas and Nielsen have already received a bid into Super Regionals after qualifying for the field last year. The duo posted four wins to qualify while the Monastir, Tunisia, native recorded three victories in singles competition to punch her ticket.
In St. John's first outing of the 2022-23 campaign, the squad excelled at the Lion Quad Invite, particularly in doubles play. The three Red Storm pairings went a combined 6-0 at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Following this weekend's action, Nielsen and de Lucas will venture to Cary, N.C. to partake in the ITA All-American Championships starting on Oct. 3.
