Men’s golf hits the road for three-day tournament
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team heads to Hampden, Mass., for the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse from Oct. 2-4.
The three-day tournament will take place at GreatHorse, a beautiful, 7,093-yard, par 72 course. The 54-hole, stroke-play event will begin each day with fixed tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day.
In total, 14 teams will participate this weekend including Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Iona, Lafayette, Long Island, Rider, Seton Hall, Siena, St. John's, Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island, Xavier and host Connecticut. The Johnnies lineup will feature Peicheng Chen, Jack Simon, Tyler Gerbavsits, Brendan Smith and Ryan Rittberger.
The Red and White come into the tournament after a sixth-place team finish at The Macdonald Cup. Chen took home medalist honors at the event as the Beijing native posted a 9-under 201 for the 54-hole event. The sophomore tallied 15 birdies to pace the field with 14 of those coming in his first day of action. Following the individual title, Chen was named the BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week.
