Women’s Tennis concludes Florida Trip with 6-1 loss to North Texas

The Red Storm will return to action on Jan. 21 at Dartmouth
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2023) – The St. John's women's tennis team was unable to grab its first win of the spring campaign against North Texas, falling 6-1 at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Mean Green (2-0) earned the first point of the match by winning two doubles matches to clinch the point before the third match was final.
In singles play, the Mean Green took five of six possible matches. In back-to-back days, the Red Storm no. 4 singles slot was victorious, this time it was Jayden Nielsen.The Vancouver native took consecutive sets 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) against the Mean Green's Olivia Malm.
Two Johnnies forced three sets in their matches but were ultimately unable to clinch the third set victory. Yesica de Lucas fell 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 against Gloria Alogo Piqueras in the no. 3 slot. Willa Bay Breunich was the other Red Storm player to take her match the distance, dropping her match with Olivia Halvorsen 0-6, 6-3, 4-6 in the no. 5 singles position.
St. John's will return to the court on Jan. 21, at Dartmouth. The Red Storm defeated the Big Green in last year's season opener, 6-1, in Hanover, N.H.
