QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2023)- The St. John's women's tennis team will finish three consecutive road matches on the road at noon on Saturday against Dartmouth at the Boss Tennis Center.
The Red Storm fell to Florida Gulf Coast and North Texas last weekend in Fort Myers, Fla. In the FGCU match, the Johnnies took two of the three doubles match to claim the doubles point. Yesica de Lucas notched her first singles victory of the season, 6-4, 7-5. The following day the squad dropped to North Texas, 6-1. Jayden Nielsen claimed the lone victory for the Johnnies 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).
St. John's looks to carry its momentum of a strong spring season in 2022, when it went 18-6, tying a program record for dual-match wins in a single-season.
The entire roster returns for Head Coach Lauren Leo, who is in her eighth year at the helm. St. John's welcomes back a pair of 2022 All-BIG EAST selections Mouna Bouzgarrou (First Team) and Nielsen (Second Team).
During the fall slate, Nielsen and de Lucas shined as a doubles team. The duo advanced to quarterfinal round of the ITA Northeast Regionals and recorded a win at the All-American Championships against the nation's top talent.
Dartmouth will open their spring slate against the Red Storm. Last spring the Big Green finished 6-13 on the year, and 1-6 in Ivy League play. Junior Chidimma Okpara and sophomore Elizabeth Fahrmeier return for Dartmouth after earning second team All-Ivy honors a season ago.
The Red Storm won the second-ever meeting with Dartmouth a year ago, 6-1 in New Hampshire.
The contest concludes the three consecutive road matches to start the year before their home opener against Marist on Jan. 27.
