Yesica de Lucas notches wins in both matches on the day
HANOVER, N.H. (Jan. 21, 2023) – The St. John's women's tennis team fell 5-2 at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center.
Yesica de Lucas notched victories in both singles and doubles to improve her season singles record to 2-1.
The Big Green (1-0) earned their first victory of the young season during its home opener.
The Red Storm's (0-3) top duo of Jayden Nielsen and de Lucas defeated the Big Green's top pairing of Chidimma Okpara and Ashley Hess, 6-4. Dartmouth won the remaining two pairings to take the doubles point of the match.
In singles play, de Lucas won her second match of the day at No. 2 singles against Ashley Hess, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Willa Bay Breunich earned the Johnnies their second singles win with a win against Lexi DeWire, 7-6 (7), 7-5.
St. John's will play two matches next weekend to open its home portion of the spring season. The Johnnies will open with Marist on Friday night and conclude the weekend against Fairfield the following day. Both matches will be held at the UTSA Tennis Center, times will be announced at a later date.
