St. John’s Travels to Meet DePaul on Saturday

Red Storm defeated Marquette, 66-61, in its last time out on Wednesday night
QUEENS, N.Y.- Following a five-point victory over Marquette on Wednesday, the St. John's women's basketball team will hit the road to face DePaul on Saturday, for a 5 p.m. ET tip-off from WinTrust Arena.

Wednesday night's victory over marked the first win over Marquette since Feb. 15, 2019 and snapped an eight-game losing streak against its conference for. A three-headed scoring attack of Danielle Patterson, Kadaja Bailey and Jayla Everettaccounted for 53 of St. John's 66 points (82 percent). Patterson racked up a season-high 17 while the two prolific scoring guards tied for the team-high with 18 points.
After surrendering the lead with just over five minutes remaining, the Johnnies orchestrated a 14-2 run in the final minutes to advance to a 6-3 mark in BIG EAST play.
As a team, the Red Storm shot a season-best 52.2 percent from the floor against Marquette, its best mark in a win since Dec. 5, 2021. The squad was notably impressive from the charity stripe knocking down 14-of-16 attempts, including finish 7-of-8 down the stretch to seal the deal.
DePaul (11-8, 4-4 BIG EAST) will look to bounce back after falling at Georgetown on Wednesday night, 87-73. The Blue Demons' rank second in the conference averaging 77.8 points a game and will faceoff with the Red Storm's league leading scoring defense this allowing 56.9 points per contest.
The Blue Demons are led by 2021-22 Associated Press Second Team All-American Aneesah Morrow, who currently ranks top-5 nationally in scoring (25.2) and rebounding (11.2) average. Sharpshooting guard Darrione Rogers checks in at fourth in the league averaging 18.9 points per game. The Chicago native sits atop the BIG EAST with 53 made 3-pointer's on the year.
The last Red Storm win in Chicago came on March 7, 2016, when it upset then-No. 18 DePaul, 75-66, in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals to advance to conference title game St. John's went onto win. The Blue Demons have taken the last 13 meetings since then.
Last season, Blue Demons and Red Storm combined for the most combined points in a single St. John's game, with DePaul finishing on top, 107-93 at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 18, 2021. During the return trip to Chicago in late January, the Johnnies tied the contest with 3:21 remaining but were outlasted and fell, 94-88. Five Red Storm players finished scoring in double figures during the outing.
After Saturday's tilt, the Red Storm will return to Queens to take on Butler on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
