QUEENS, N.Y. – Prior to back-to-back home games in New York City, the Red Storm will first look for its second-straight BIG EAST road win on Wednesday when St. John's takes on Creighton at CHI Health Center Omaha. CBS Sports Network will carry the national telecast at 9 p.m. ET with Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas on the call from Omaha.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brian Mahoney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 385 and channel 975 on the SiriusXM app.
St. John's (13-7, 3-6 BIG EAST) has won two of its last three games and aims to bounce back from an eight-point setback to Villanova on Friday at Madison Square Garden. Joel Soriano led the Johnnies in their recent outing at "The World's Most Famous Arena," with 14 points and 16 rebounds for his NCAA-leading 17th double-double.
Prior to being tripped up by the Wildcats, the Red Storm won consecutive contests, beginning with a 16-point victory over Butler on Jan. 10 in Queens followed by an 11-point win at then-No. 6/7 UConn on Jan. 15. During the two-game win streak, St. John's averaged 81.0 points, shooting 52.2 percent (60-115 FG) from the floor. Defensively, the Johnnies forced 21.5 turnovers per contest, while recording 20.5 points off turnovers.
Soriano paced the Johnnies with 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest in the team's last two wins. Freshman wing AJ Storr averaged 13.0 points, shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from distance against the Bulldogs and Huskies. For his efforts, Storr was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Jan. 16.
On Wednesday, the Johnnies will meet the Bluejays for the 26th time in series history. St. John's aims to end a four-game slide against Creighton by picking up its first win over the Bluejays since March 1, 2020. Greg Williams Jr. scored a career-high 21 points, hitting seven 3-pointers to help lead St. John's to a 91-71 victory over No. 10 Creighton at Carnesecca Arena.
The Red Storm will also look for just its second road win all-time against the Bluejays when it visits CHI Health Center Omaha on Wednesday. St. John's last victory in Omaha was on Jan. 30, 2019, as Shamorie Ponds registered a game-high 26 points and six steals to help the Red Storm to an 83-67 victory.
Creighton (11-8, 5-3 BIG EAST) has won five of its last seven, including back-to-back victories over Providence and Butler. Ryan Kalkbrenner leads the Bluejays averaging 14.9 points per game this season. The 7-foot-1 center registered his fifth 20-point performance of the campaign against the Friars, finishing with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor and 7-of-11 at the free-throw line.
Wednesday's contest will be a battle on the boards between two of the top rebounding teams in the country. The Bluejays hold a slight edge with 28.9 defensive boards per game (10th in NCAA), while the Red Storm has the upper hand with 39.8 total rebounds (18th) and 12.7 offensive boards (27th) per contest.
After its trip to Omaha, St. John's will return to Madison Square Garden on Sunday to host Georgetown at 2 p.m.
