St. John’s in Fifth at Xavier Invitational

Peicheng Chen leads the squad after shooting 1-under in the first round
CINCINNATI, Ohio (Oct. 16, 2023)- St. John's men's golf team currently checks in at fifth place on the leaderboard after the first two rounds at the Xavier Invitational on Monday.
The Red Storm carded a 31-over, 591, after 36 holes of play at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati to sit in the top half of the 11-team field.
The Johnnies tallied 105 pars as a team and shot under par on the par 5's turning in a 4.90 stroke average.
Junior standout Peicheng Chen led the team after logging a team-low 1-under, 69, in the first round after play. The Beijing native flushed three birdies over the first 18 holes and five total on the day. In the afternoon round, Chen shot a 6-over, 76 and is tied for 14th place heading into the final day of competition.
Thomas Finn turned in a pair of 4-over, 74's on Monday to place second on the team and 26th overall. The freshman led the team recording par on 25 out of the first 36 holes.
Erik Stevens and Ryan Rittberger are tied for 30th overall in the 68-player field. Both players shot 9-over, 149, on the day. Stevens record the second best round by a St. John's player shooting 3-over, 73, in the opening round. Rittberger ranks second on the team with four birdies.
St. John's will tee off for the final round in the Queen City tomorrow at 9 a.m. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
