St. John’s Heads to Marquette for Pivotal BIG EAST Road Match

Red Storm search for playoff berth in Milwaukee on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 21, 2023)- The St. John's women's soccer team will venture to Milwaukee for a pivotal BIG EAST road match at Marquette on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Storm will kick-off from Valley Fields at 2 p.m. ET on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
St. John's currently sits in fifth with 10 points in the league table. The top-six schools qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. A win on Sunday and a Butler loss or tie at first-place Georgetown will send the Red Storm to its third-straight postseason.
Last time out, the Red Storm dropped a road contest at No. 19 Xavier on Sunday. Prior to that match, the Johnnies were unbeaten in four-straight capped off by a three-goal second half to down Butler, 3-1, in Queens on Oct. 12.
Jessica Garziano continues her dazzling final campaign in Queens. Last week, the graduate student was named No. 53 on the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason National Top-100 list. The Long Island native has recorded eight goals and nine assists (25 points) on the year, all marks that rank her top-two in the BIG EAST. With her eighth goal of the year against the Bulldogs, the midfielder reached 20 for her career and became the first-ever player in program history to record 20 goals and 30 assists at St. John's.
Goaltender Maria O'Sullivan has been racking up saves as of late. In Sunday's match in Cincinnati the graduate student matched a season-high with seven stops. Over her last four appearances, O'Sullivan has tallied 23 saves.
The Golden Eagles welcomes the Johnnies for their second-straight home contest and hold a 5-8-4 record on the year. After bringing a tie to the locker room on Thursday night against Georgetown. The Hoyas exploded for five goals in the latter 45 minutes to down Marquette, 5-0.
In last year's meeting, the two conference foes drew at Belson Stadium, 1-1, on Oct. 22, 2022. Nicole Gordon registered the goal for the Red Storm in the opening half before the Golden Eagles found the equalizer in the 84th minute.
Following Sunday's match. The Johnnies will return to Belson Stadium for their regular season finale against DePaul on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
