Erin Jones and Ludovica Zola Selected to Final BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

St. John’s closed out the regular season with a 21-9 overall record and a 13-5 BIG EAST mark
QUEENS, N.Y. – After finishing the regular season at Marquette and DePaul, Erin Jones and Ludovica Zola were selected to the final BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
This marks Jones' third honor roll selection and fourth award selection of the 2023 regular season. The sophomore was previously tabbed to the weekly honor roll on Sept. 11 and Nov. 6 and was chosen as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16.
Zola has now been selected to the weekly honor roll four times this season. She was previously recognized by the conference on Sept. 25, Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.
Jones put together an excellent weekend for the Johnnies, racking up 31 kills, 16 assists, 14 digs, three aces and two blocks.
On Friday night against Marquette, the sophomore earned her 12th double-double of the season. Jones tallied 11 kills at a 33.3 percent clip with 11 assists, five digs an ace and a block.
The following day against DePaul, the Albuquerque, N.M., product paced the match with 19 kills to go along with nine digs, five helpers, two aces and a block.
Jones finished off an impressive sophomore season by leading the Red Storm in points and kills. The talented sophomore earned 443.5 points and 392 kills, averaging 4.07 points and 3.60 kills per set. Overall, Jones finished fifth in the BIG EAST in kills per set and fourth in the league in points per set.
Zola capped off a fantastic regular season by logging 11 total blocks, seven kills, two digs and an ace against Marquette and DePaul.
The sophomore totaled five blocks against Marquette, averaging 1.66 denials per set. The middle blocker also added a kill, a dig and an ace in the match.
When playing against DePaul on Saturday night, the Milan, Italy, native put on a show by totaling six total rejections, six kills at a 62.5 hitting percentage with a dig. Two of Zola's six blocks were solo.
Zola finished a breakout regular season as the team leader in blocks, notching 98 total denials, 10 of which were solo. In BIG EAST matches, the powerful blocker finished with 68 denials, the most in conference matches. She also averaged 1.3 blocks per set which is the second-best in league play.
The Johnnies secured their second-straight 20-win season, finishing with an overall record of 21-9 and a BIG EAST mark of 13-5.
The squad's 21-9 overall record marks the best regular season finish since 2018 when the program went 23-9. Its 13-5 BIG EAST finish marks the most regular season conference victories since 2007.
St. John's will head back to Milwaukee for its fifth BIG EAST Tournament appearance in the last six years. The third-seeded Red Storm will take on six-seed Villanova in the first round of the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Presented by Jeep on Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
