St. John’s Returns to Carnesecca Arena to Face Loyola Maryland

Red Storm to face Greyhounds for first-time ever
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball team returns to Queens after three games at the Discover Puerto Classic in San Juan to face Loyola Maryland on Wednesday night.
Wednesday's contest will begin at 7 p.m. from Carnesecca Arena with Kevin Connelly on the call on FloSports. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.

The Johnnies will look to get back on track after falling in their last contest to Jackson State. After trailing by nine late in the third quarter, St. John's (2-5) stormed back and cut the deficit to one, 55-54, with 0:54 on the clock before eventually falling, 60-56.
Unique Drake led all scorers for the fifth time this season after the outing against the Tigers. The redshirt senior is averaging 19.1 points per contest and tallied 30 points against Manhattan on Nov. 19. The guard has made herself at home behind the 3-point line making 22 triples at a 45.8 percent clip.
Jillian Archer ranks second on the team in scoring averaging 12.0 points per game and leads the squad in rebounding with 7.4 boards per contest. The forward has been efficient from the charity stripe making 81.1 percent (30-37) of her attempts this season. Her 30 made free throws ranks atop the BIG EAST.
Ber'Nyah Mayo averaged 14.0 points per game over three appearances at the Discover Puerto Rico Classic. Against VCU on Thanksgiving night, the point guard went for a season-high 20 points. On Nov. 16, the UMass transfer eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark and will be honored prior to Thursday night's game.
The Red Storm defense has excelled in forcing takeaways during the 2023-24 campaign. The Johnnies' opponents are averaging 18.7 turnovers per game. Four of their seven opponents have totaled 20-plus turnovers.
Loyola Maryland enters the contest with a 3-2 record on the year and most recently dropped a narrow contest at home against St. Bonaventure, 55-51.
Lex Therien has posted monster numbers of Loyola Maryland during its opening five games. The forward is averaging 18.0 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. She has logged four double-doubles in five starts, which is currently tied for top-5 in the country. Therien pulled down 18 boards against the Bonnies.
Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Candice Hill will coach against her alma mater, where she played point guard for the Greyhounds from 2007-12.
The Greyhounds are the first Patriot League opponent the Red Storm will face since Dec. 19, 2019, when it defeated Army, 96-60.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Red Storm will head up to Marist for a Saturday night tilt in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. at 7 p.m.
