Garziano becomes the fourth All-American in program history
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Women's Soccer star Jessica Garziano earned the esteemed honor of being named a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American.
The organization unveiled their selections for the nation's top players on Friday afternoon. The recipients will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches' Convention on Jan. 14, 2024, in conjunction with their convention in Anaheim, Calif.
The midfielder becomes just the fourth player in program history to ever earn All-American honors, joining Rachel Daly (2013 & 2015), Georgia Kearney-Perry (2015) and Zsani Kajan (2021). She is the first-ever Red Storm player born in the United States to receive the honor.
Garziano was magnificent during her final campaign in Queens tallying 10 goals and 11 assists. The Melville, N.Y., native became the first St. John's player to ever tally to double-digit goals and assists in the same year.
The accolades have poured in for the veteran for her outstanding performances on the pitch. On Nov. 1, Garziano was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a unanimous first team all-league selection. With her fourth league honor, the Johnnie became just the third player to ever receive conference honors four times.
The midfielder led the BIG EAST in points (31), assists (11) and finished second in goals (10). She averaged 0.58 helpers per game, which ranked 11th nationally. Garziano's single-season point mark ranks fifth all-time in program history and 22nd in the country.
Garziano etched her name in the record books as the program's career assist leader with a helper in dramatic 4-3 triumph over Harvard on Sept. 17. She currently ranks fifth in the country among active career leaders with 33 over her tenure.
The Long Island native tallied a point in 15 of the 16 games that the Johnnies scored a goal. Garziano contributed a goal or assist on 21 of the squad's 33 goals (63.6 percent). She recorded 12 multi-point games including a season-high five in the win over Harvard.
The graduate student's United Soccer Coaches All-American spot marks the first of her illustrious career. She joins fellow BIG EAST players Julia Leas (Georgetown), Natalie Bain (Xavier) and Chioma Okafor (UConn).
The All-American honor adds to a lengthy list of awards this season for the midfielder, who has been named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team selection, CSC Academic All-District Team choice, TopDrawer Soccer National Team of the Week honoree and was ranked No. 53 on the TopDrawer Soccer Midseason Top-100.
Garziano finished the season tied for first in St. John's history in assists (11), sixth in points (31), tied for 10th in goals (10). For her career, she ranks 1st in assists (33), fifth in points (77) and tied for seventh in goals (22).
