QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau and midfielder Macoumba Ba earned spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Teams, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Fleuriau Chateau secured a second team nod after an improbable run last season. In his 17 appearances this season, the Canadian striker rattled off 14 goals and one assist for 29 points. The redshirt junior concluded the year in a four-way tie for fifth on St. John's single-season goals leaderboard, matching Medufia Kulego (1996), Shalrie Joseph (2000) and Simone Salinno (2003) with 14 on the year.
The All-BIG EAST First Team selection had finished the regular season in a five-way deadlock for the NCAA Division I lead in goals. Fleuriau Chateau also ranked inside the Division I top five for points, logging 29 in total and ranking fourth nationally at the regular season's end.
The Ottawa, Ontario native captured three weekly honors, including a BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week accolade following his final brace of the year in the team's season finale against Creighton (Oct. 28). The Canadian striker also logged two-goal outings against Rutgers (Aug. 28) and Columbia (Oct. 3).
Ba picked up a third team selection in his first season in Queens. The midfielder pestered the opposition with speed and shiftiness, earning four goals, six assists and 14 points across 17 appearances. The Louisville transfer also booted home a pair of penalty kicks and registered two game-winning strikes.
The Senegal native also secured a pair of BIG EAST weekly honors, earning BIG EAST Defender of the Week following a victory over Villanova. Ba utilized his speed to cut off prime opportunities through the middle of the field and the defensive third while fending off seven Wildcat shot attempts and holding Villanova to one corner kick. He also registered a goal and an assist in that contest. Ba also earned a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection on Sept. 11.
