The Red Storm looks for its third-straight win over the Blue Demons on Tuesday at Wintrust Arena
QUEENS, N.Y. – On the heels of a five-point victory over No. 20/17 Providence, the St. John's men's basketball team will look to sweep the season series with DePaul on Tuesday at Wintrust Arena. FS1 will carry the national telecast at 9 p.m. ET with Brandon Gaudin and Devin Harris on the call.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Brian Mahoney will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 380 and channel 970 on the SiriusXM app.
St. John's (15-11, 5-10 BIG EAST) picked up its second win over a ranked opponent on Saturday with a 73-68 victory over the Friars at Madison Square Garden. David Jones led five Johnnies in double figures with 16 points and seven boards. Tuesday's contest will mark Jones first visit to Wintrust Arena as a member of the Red Storm after the junior wing played the previous two seasons at DePaul. In his final four full games at Wintrust Arena as a member of the Blue Demons, Jones averaged 19.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.
Red Storm big man Joel Soriano also shined on Saturday against the Friars in his 100th career game at the Division I level. Soriano went for 10 points and 13 rebounds for his 20th double-double of the season. The Yonkers native boosted his rebound total to 312 this season, which marks the most by a Johnnie in a single season since Walter Berry grabbed 399 in 1985-86.
Since becoming starters, AJ Storr and Dylan Addae-Wusu continue to be steady options for Head Coach Mike Anderson, posting 15 and 13 points apiece, respectively, in Saturday's win over the Friars. Posh Alexander rounded out those in double figures with a 10-point, nine-assist showing at The Garden.
On Tuesday, the Johnnies will look to sweep the season series and take its third-straight game from DePaul (9-16, 3-11 BIG EAST) in the 53rd all-time meeting between the programs. St. John's holds a 30-22 advantage in series history with DePaul. In the last meeting on Dec. 7, St. John's cruised to an 86-67 victory over DePaul at Carnesecca Arena. Soriano led the way for the Red Storm, finishing with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
St. John's has won three of its five games against DePaul inside Wintrust Arena. Last season, the Blue Demons came away with a 99-94 victory on Feb. 27, 2022. In that contest, Jones paced DePaul with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Alexander led St. John's with 18 points shooting 8-for-12 from the field, to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.
Since defeating then-No. 8 Xavier, 73-72, at home on Jan 18, DePaul has dropped six-straight contests, most recently at Villanova, 81-65, on Wednesday. However, seven of the Blue Demons' nine wins this year have come at Wintrust Arena, including three against BIG EAST opponents.
Graduate transfers Umoja Gibson and Javan Johnson have been the Blue Demons top scoring threats this season. Gibson, a transfer from Oklahoma, paces the team with 16.4 points per game in BIG EAST action. Johnson, a transfer from Iowa State, has averaged 14.6 points per contest.
Following Tuesday's game, the Johnnies will return to Carnesecca Arena for the final time this season, hosting No. 23/RV Creighton on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
