Women’s Tennis Travels for Match at Delaware

The Red Storm have won its last five matches
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2023) - The St. John's women's tennis team travels to Delaware for a Friday match against the Blue Hens at 12:15 p.m. at Delcastle Tennis Center.
The Red Storm swept the BIG EAST Weekly Awards this week with Lalita Deverakonda being tabbed singles player and her and Mouna Bouzgarrou were selected for doubles team of the week. Deverakonda won her match of the week at No.1 singles against St. Francis Brooklyn's Milana Lysova, 7-6, 6-4 on Wednesday. The Hyderabad, India native is 4-2 this season, with a 4-1 record in the No. 1 slot. In their second match of the season together, the duo knocked off Milana Lysova and Margherita Fiorio, 6-2. With the victory, the tandem is 2-0 overall on the season after just paring up together a week ago.
The Johnnies are currently riding a five-match winning streak. The Red Storm have been on fire despite a few different doubles pairings, and singles playing orders. St. John's has dropped just one set during that span, outscoring their opponents 31-1. The span includes four sweeps against Marist, Fairfield, Monmouth and St. Francis Brooklyn.
In singles play, Yesica de Lucas leads the team with a 7-1 record on the season. De Lucas has won her last six matches along with Willa Bay Breunich. Breunich is 6-2 on the season in singles.
Delaware enters the match at 4-2 on the season. The Blue Hens earned a pair of victories against Villanova and at NJIT this past weekend. Delaware will travel to Monmouth on Sunday to complete its weekend matches.
The two programs will be meeting for the first time in program history.
St. John's will open BIG EAST play next Friday against Villanova.
