QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team will try for its third win in the last four games on Wednesday when the Red Storm takes on Georgetown at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. CBS Sports Network will carry the national telecast at 9 p.m. with Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas on the call.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Tarik Turner will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 390 and channel 980 on the SiriusXM app.
St. John's (16-12, 6-11 BIG EAST) will look to rebound from a 10-point setback to then-No. 18/19 Creighton on Saturday in the team's final contest at Carnesecca Arena this season. Senior center Joel Soriano led the Red Storm with 15 points and eight boards while David Jones chipped in 14 of his own in 28 minutes off the bench. Soriano also grabbed his 500th rebound at St. John's against the Bluejays, becoming just the ninth player in program history to reach the milestone in his first two seasons in Queens.
On Wednesday, the Johnnies look for their sixth win in the last seven tries against Georgetown and to sweep the regular season series for the second-straight year. Last season at McDonough Arena, Julian Champagnie registered 27 points and Soriano added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lift St. John's to a 90-77 victory on Feb. 3, 2022, in Washington, D.C. Wednesday's visit to Capital One Arena is the Red Storm's first since the 2019-20 campaign.
In their first meeting this season on Jan. 29 at MSG, Jones scored eight-straight points in the final four minutes of action before AJ Storr buried the game-winning 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds on the clock to secure a 75-73 victory. Jones finished with a team-high 17 points in 27 minutes off the bench, while Dylan Addae-Wusu registered 15 points and hit four 3-pointers versus the Hoyas. Duquesne transfer Primo Spears led the Hoyas with 25 points, shooting 10-for-19 from the field.
Georgetown (7-21, 2-15 BIG EAST) is coming off a 68-62 road win at Butler on Sunday. Brandon Murray (17), Qudus Wahab (14) and Jay Heath (12) each registered double-figures to help the Hoyas snap a six-game slide.
The Hoyas enter Wednesday's contest with a 5-10 record at home this season. Georgetown's last win at Capital One Arena was on Jan. 24, earning an 81-76 victory over DePaul. Spears scored 21 points and dished out six assists in that victory.
After visiting Georgetown, the Red Storm returns to action at home on Saturday for Senior Day at Madison Square Garden. St. John's hosts No. 18/23 UConn at 12 p.m. on CBS.
