10 Johnnies Qualify for Event Finals at Day One of BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships

Five student-athletes scored points on Friday
CHICAGO- The St. John's track and field team wrapped its first of two days of competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Indoor Track and Field Center on Friday.
Five members of the Red Storm tallied at least one point to put the Johnnies in a tie for seventh at the conclusion of day one.
Berit Friedenbach finished fifth in the pole vault, scoring four points, and Colette Metcalf grabbed eighth to tally one point for St. John's.
In the long jump, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji finished sixth overall with a leap of 5.66 meters to score three points.
Two Johnnies scored in the weight throw as Ismini Andreou and Samantha Morillo-Martinez finished fourth and seventh, respectively, to rack up seven points for the Red & White.
10 track athletes posted qualifying times across four events on Friday afternoon.
In the 60 meters, Brooklyn Chestnut, Tea Siehou and Delicia Bent all logged times below 7.70 seconds to reach the final round which will take place on Saturday.
Tatyana McKenzie comfortably qualified for the 200-meter final with a first-place time of 24.05. Bent and Nora Haugen will join McKenzie in the final on Saturday.
McKenzie, Haugen and Chinenye Onuorah all punched a ticket to the 400-meter final, and Nia Holden rounded out the qualifiers with an 800-meter run time of 2:13.40.
The BIG EAST Championships will conclude tomorrow afternoon, starting with the final rounds of the men's pentathlon at 11:00 a.m.
