Red Storm to take on Friars at Alumni Hall on Monday Night
QUEENS, N.Y.— The St. John's women's basketball team will play its final regular season contest on Monday night at Providence.
The game will start at 7 p.m. from Alumni Hall with Mike Mancuso and Pam Roecker on the call on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
With a win or a Marquette loss, the Red Storm will clinch fourth place in the conference and hold the No. 4 seed heading into this week's BIG EAST Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.
In its last time out, the Johnnies concluded their home slate with a 61-53 victory over Georgetown on Senior Night. The team's two leading scorers Jayla Everett and Kadaja Bailey paced the offensive effort on Friday.
Everett tallied 17 points and drilled three triples in the winning effort, the shooting guard leads the league and ranks inside the top-50 nationally making 2.5 3-pointers per game.
Bailey chipped in 15 points and matched a season-high nine boards in the win over the Hoyas. Over her last two games, the redshirt senior is averaging 17.5 points and sits 14 points shy of moving into the top-10 all-time in program history in scoring.
St. John's finished the regular season slate with a 14-2 record inside Carnesecca Arena and earned its 12th BIG EAST win on the year, the most the program has tallied since the 2013-14 campaign.
The Red Storm have been impressive in close contests this season, holding a 10-1 record in games decided by nine points or less.
On Dec. 18, Providence and St. John's faced off at Carnesecca Arena. The Friars held a three-point advantage heading into the final frame before a 17-5 scoring stretch lifted the Red Storm to a victory. Everett led all scorers with 21 points and drained a season-high five 3-pointers.
The two conference foes have split the season series each of the last four seasons with the home team winning each time over the last three years, as the Johnnies seek their first season sweep of the Friars since 2017.
Providence enters its final game of the 2022-23 campaign on a seven-game skid. The Friars have four players- Janai Crooms, Olivia Olsen, Grace Efosa and Kylee Sheppard that rank inside the top-30 in the BIG EAST in scoring. Crooms leads the charge averaging 11.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest.
Following Monday's game, St. John's will prepare for the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn on March 3-6.
