St. John’s Wraps up Loyola Intercollegiate

Chen and Gerbavsits log best finish scoring 1-over par over three rounds
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (Feb. 28, 2023)— The St. John's men's golf team wrapped up play at the Loyola Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Storm finished the three-round 54-hole tournament at Palm Valley Golf Club in 17th place, finishing 15-over as a team. Utah Valley won the tournament with a combined team score of 21-under par.
Peicheng Chen and Tyler Gerbavsits notched the best finishes for the Johnnies, finishing T-36th at 1-over, 217 over the three days in the 108-golfer field. Gerbavsits carded a second round 3-under, 69, the best 18-hole score by a Red Storm player out in Arizona. Chen stayed consistent over the three rounds, after finishing 1-under 71 on the opening day, he tallied a 1-over 73 the following two rounds.
Jack Simon finished one stroke behind his teammates with a total score 2-over, 218. After an opening round 6-over, 78, the Sparta, N.J., native finished strongly carding back-to-back rounds 2-under par. On Tuesday, the graduate student tallied four birdies to record a team-best 2-under, 70, at Palm Valley Golf Club. Simon finished the tournament tied for 45th place.
Ryan Rittberger finished with a 12-over, 228 and Gage Wolfle ended at a 13-over, 229, to round out the Red Storm line-up.
The Red Storm will retake the course on March 13-14 for the Ross Intercollegiate in Southern Pines N.C. at the Mid Pines Golf Club.
