Shooting guard paced the squad during 3-0 week averaging 17.3 points per game
NEW YORK— For the seventh time this season, St. John's women's basketball shooting guard Jayla Everett was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Everett paced the squad during a crucial three-game winning streak averaging 17.3 points per game in victories over No. 4/5 UConn, Georgetown and Providence.
In the historic win at No. 4/5 UConn, Everett logged 17 points and eight rebounds at the XL Center. In the final minute, the St Louis native drained a crucial pull-up jumper to give the Johnnies a four-point cushion, 64-60.
On her senior night against Georgetown, Everett tied for a game-high 17 points and 7-of-16 shooting from the floor in a 61-53 triumph at Carnesecca Arena.
Last night, in the regular season finale at Providence, Everett led all scorers with 18 points and shot 4-for-7 from beyond-the-arc. The team's leading scorer came up clutch again late in the game sinking a 3-pointer to put the Red Storm up six, 50-44 with 1:43 to go.
After transferring from Pittsburgh, Everett led the team during the regular season averaging 16.1 points per game. Her scoring average is the most by a Red Storm player in their first season with the program since Tawana Jackson in 1994-95.
An impressive shooter from downtown, Everett has made over 70 triples and counting, the most by any St. John's player in nearly 15 years. The redshirt senior leads the league with 2.54 3-pointers made per game and shoots 42.5 percent from 3-point land, which ranks 15th nationally.
Everett and the Red Storm will be back in action on Saturday for the BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep. Fourth-seeded St. John's will meet fifth-seeded Marquette at Mohegan Sun Arena at 2:30 p.m. on FS2.
