The Red Storm will look to secure its third-straight win against the Bulldogs
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team will look to wrap up its two-game road trip on a high note when the Red Storm squares off with Butler on Tuesday. FS1 will carry the national telecast at 8:30 p.m. with Jeff Levering and Nick Bahe calling the action from Hinkle Fieldhouse.
An audio broadcast of the game on the LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network with John Minko and Vin Parise will also be available on a variety of platforms including the Varsity Network App, TuneIn Radio, RedStormSports.com and the St. John's Red Storm mobile app. St. John's radio broadcast can also be heard on SiriusXM channel 386 and channel 976 on the SiriusXM app.
St. John's (14-10, 4-9 BIG EAST) aims to end a two-game slide on Tuesday in Indianapolis. The Johnnies are coming off 96-71 setback at No. 16/15 Xavier where Dylan Addae-Wusu and AJ Storr led St. John's once again with 14 points apiece.
Over the last six games, the duo has shined for the Red Storm, as Storr has posted team-best 13.8 points per game, hitting 11 of his 30 made field goals from behind the arc. Addae-Wusu has registered 12.0 points per contest, shooting 45.8 percent (11-24 FG) from the field during this stretch.
On Tuesday, St. John's will try to sweep the regular-season series with Butler for the second-straight season. In their last meeting on Jan. 10, Joel Soriano went off for a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double to help lead the Johnnies to a 77-61 victory at Carnesecca Arena. The Johnnies shot 52.6 percent (30-57 FG) from the floor in that contest. Storr (12), Andre Curbelo (11) and Rafael Pinzon (10) also recorded double figures and combined to hit five of the team's eight 3-pointers on the night.
In a series that began in the 1958 National Invitation Tournament, St. John's and Butler have split their 20 meetings all-time. The Red Storm will look to earn just its third win at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Last season, St. John's knocked off Butler in Indianapolis with a 75-72 victory on Feb. 5, 2022, behind Julian Champagnie's 21-point, eight-rebound showing.
Since its loss to the Johnnies, Butler (11-13, 3-10 BIG EAST) has dropped five of its last six games, with its only win coming against Villanova at home, 79-71, on Jan. 13. On Saturday, the Bulldogs nearly erased a 13-point deficit at No. 14/12 Marquette, but fell just short in the 60-52 setback inside Fiserv Forum. Bulldogs' sophomore guard Jayden Taylor recorded a team-best 19 points after nailing three of his six attempts from distance to go with a career-high seven rebounds. Taylor leads Butler with 12.0 points and 1.4 steals per game this season.
After Tuesday's matchup with Butler, St. John's will return to New York City to host Providence at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. on FOX.
