Red Storm to face the Musketeers on Wednesday night at the Cintas Center
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's basketball team will close its two-game road trip in the Midwest, when it faces Xavier on Wednesday night at the Cintas Center.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Mike Schmaltz and Paul Fritschner on the call from Cincinnati on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
Wednesday will serve as the Musketeers Black Fives Foundation game, the Red Storm will host its on Saturday when it welcomes DePaul. In honor of Black History Month, the BIG EAST Conference partnered with the non-profit organization, whose mission is to honor the pre-NBA era African-Americans basketball players for their contributions to the sport.
The Red Storm will look to bounce back after a pair of losses last week to Creighton and Seton Hall. In Omaha on Saturday, three Johnnies- Kadaja Bailey, Jayla Everett and Rayven Peeples scored in double-figures. As a team St. John's shot 47.1 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from beyond-the-arc in the 81-65 defeat inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
In the first meeting between the two schools, St. John's cruised to a 71-52 victory over Xavier on Jan. 8 at Carnesecca Arena. Jayla Everett went off for a season-high 26 points, the most by a Red Storm player. Jillian Archer logged a double-double with 16 points and 13 boards.
Xavier is seeking its first BIG EAST win and holds an overall record of 7-14. The Musketeers are led offensively by New York City native Mackayla Scarlett, the junior guard averages a team-high 11.5 points per game.
The Johnnies have won 15-staight against the Musketeers and hold an all-time series lead of 17-2, dating back to the first meeting between the schools in 2012. Head Coach Joe Tartamella will coach against the Musketeers for the 20th time on Wednesday night, seeking his 200th career victory.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Red Storm will return for a pair of home games against DePaul (Feb. 11) and Villanova (Feb. 15) at Carnesecca Arena.
