Women’s Tennis Travels to No. 57 Yale

The Red Storm will resume BIG EAST play next week hosting Providence on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 10, 2023) - The St. John's women's tennis team will travel to No. 57 Yale for a Saturday morning match at starting at 10 a.m. at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
The Red Storm swept Radford, 4-0 earlier in the week. Three Johnnies earned a pair of wins on the day. Yesica de Lucas improved to a team-best 10-2 in singles. This was the first time the two programs played against each other.
The Johnnies opened BIG EAST play with a victory for the third consecutive season on Feb. 24 at the USTA Tennis Center. Four Johnnies earned a pair of wins on the day. Each singles match was decided in straight sets, and both doubles matches that finished were 6-1 victories for the Red Storm.
In doubles play, the new pairing of Mouna Bouzgarrou and Lalita Devarakonda are a flourishing 4-2 since teaming up manning the no. 1 doubles slot. The other new pairing of Amaya Lopez and de Lucas are 2-0 since teaming up together. Willa Bay Breunich and Camila Ordonez which have maintained their partnership all year for a 5-4 record.
In singles play, de Lucas leads the way with an 10-2 overall record. Breunich's 8-3 overall record is the second-best on the team. Three Johnnies have posted six wins on the season. Lopez touts a 6-3 record, while Bouzgarrou and Devarakonda are 6-4 on the season.
Head Coach Lauren Leo earned her 100th career-win at the helm of the St. John's Red Storm against Villanova on Feb. 24. Leo is the second head coach in program history to reach the milestone. Sheila Wildermuth owns the program record with 149 total wins in her 10-season career with the Red Storm from 1974-1984.
No. 57 Yale entered the ITA Rankings last week sporting a 6-5 record. The Bulldogs traveled to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic dropping two of three. Yale earned a 4-1 victory against Furman and dropped a pair of matches to Texas Tech and Alabama.
Yale owns the all-time series with St. John's holding a 4-1 advantage. The two programs last met in 2020 in New Haven, Conn. when the Bulldogs prevailed, 6-1.
