Women’s Tennis Drops to No. 57 Yale, 4-2

The Red Storm will resume BIG EAST play next week hosting Providence on Friday
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 11, 2023) - The St. John's women's tennis team fell to No. 57 Yale on Saturday morning at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, 4-2.
The Red Storm (7-6, 1-0 BIG EAST) faced their first nationally ranked team of the season.
In doubles play, the Johnnies clinched the first point of the match after winning the first two doubles matches. Yesica de Lucas and Amaya Lopez earned their third straight win in as many tries defeating Sophia Yaslow and AnnWright Guerry, 6-2. Head Coach Lauren Leo introduced the seventh different pairing of the season with Camila Ordonez and Lalita Devarakonda. The tandem notched a 6-2 victory over Jamie Kim and Rebecca Lynn.
After winning the doubles point, the Johnnies needed three singles wins to clinch the match. However, the Bulldogs were able to win four of the five finished singles contest to win the match, 4-2. De Lucas earned her team-best 11th win of the season winning in straight sets against Guerry, 6-0, 6-3. Devarakonda made her 11th appearance at No. 1 singles for the Red Storm. The Hyderabad, India native fell to the Bulldogs top player, Rhea Shrivistava, 6-1, 6-2. All of Yale's singles wins came in straight sets.
St. John's will resume BIG EAST play with three consecutive conference opponents. The Red Storm will host the Friars of Providence on Friday at 12:15 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center.
