Lalita Devarakonda Tabbed BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

Devarakonda earns second honor this season
QUEENS, N.Y. (March 20, 2023) - The St. John's women's tennis player Lalita Deverakonda was selected as the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The graduate student is not a stranger to conference honors, marking her fourth total award this season. Devarakonda has paired with Mouna Bouzgarrou to earn a pair of BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honors. She also earned the singles player honor earlier this season on Feb. 13.
In the Red Storm's only match this week, Devarakonda notched her seventh win of the season, a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles against conference foe Katie Mulvey of Providence. The Hyderabad, India native has played 11 of her 12 singles matches this season in the top spot for the Johnnies, touting a 7-4 record. In doubles play, she has partnered with three teammates for a combined 6-2 record.
The Johnnies improved to 2-0 in conference play toppling Providence, 6-1 on Friday. Three individuals notched a pair of wins on the day, including Devarakonda. With the win, the Red Storm improved to 8-6 on the season, and 2-0 in league play
St. John's will continue conference play this weekend with a pair of league matches. The Red Storm will host UConn on Friday at the USTA Tennis Center before traveling to Georgetown on Sunday.
