Women’s Tennis Caps Weekend on 4-3 Win at Georgetown

The Red Storm are a perfect 4-0 to start conference play
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team edged Georgetown, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon to pick up its fourth consecutive conference win.
The Red Storm (10-6, 4-0) are on a three-match win streak, and have not dropped a conference match this spring.
The Johnnies earned the crucial first point of the match taking two of the three doubles matches from the Hoyas. Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson notched their sixth win to tie for the team lead with a 6-3 victory against Olivia Ashton and Morgan Coburn. The tandem of Amaya Lopez and Lalita Devarakonda knocked off Paige Gilbert and Ashley Kennedy, 6-2 to finalize the point for the Johnnies.
In singles play, two Johnnies earned their second win of the day. In No. 1 singles pairing, Lalita Devarakonda notched her second victory of the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Avantika Willy. de Lucas improved to a team-high 14 wins with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Chloe Bendetti in the second slot. The third singles victory came from Bouzgarrou via straight sets, 7-6 (7-6), 6-4, against Agata Mikos. The Hoyas took the final three pairings of the match including a default win in the sixth slot.
The Red Storm will be back in action next week with back-to-back matches starting on Friday. The Johnnies will host Hofstra at 2:15 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center before traveling to Stony Brook for a 12 p.m. match on Sunday.
