Women’s Tennis Gears Up for Back-to-Back Matches

The Red Storm will host Hofstra Friday before road-tripping to Stony Brook on Saturday
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team will play back-to-back matches this weekend, opening with a home match against Hofstra on Friday at 12:15 p.m. at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Before Friday's final home match of the season, a senior day presentation will recognize the five graduating student-athletes.
The 10-6 Red Storm will take a break from BIG EAST play with Hofstra on Friday and Saturday at Stony Brook at noon.
This week's BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, Mouna Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson posted a 2-0 record against a pair of conference foes. The duo competed in the top spot against UConn and the second slot facing Georgetown. The tandem is tied for the team-high with six wins and just one loss.
Last week, the Red Storm took a pair of BIG EAST matches at home against UConn and on the road at Georgetown. Bouzgarrou won all four matches she played in across both days. Lalita Devarakonda notched a pair of wins in No. 1 singles against the Huskies and the Hoyas. In the 6-1 defeat of the Huskies three Johnnies recorded a pair of wins. Devarakonda and Bouzgarrou earned a pair of wins in the Red Storm's 4-3 victory against Georgetown.
Two pairs of Johnnies have totaled six wins each as a duo. Bouzgarrou and Haakansson have won six out of seven matches, while Yesica de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen are 6-3. Camila Ordonez and Willa Bay Breunich are 5-4 as a pair. De Lucas has 10 total doubles wins with three different teammates and Devarakonda has totaled seven wins with three different partners
In singles play, de Lucas leads the way with an 14-2 overall record. Devarakonda and Bouzgarrou each have notched nine wins for the second best on the team. Breunich touts a 8-3 overall record with six of those wins in the fifth spot.
Head Coach Lauren Leo earned her 100th career-win at the helm of the St. John's Red Storm against Villanova on Feb. 24. Leo is the second head coach in program history to reach the milestone. Sheila Wildermuth owns the program record with 149 total wins in her 10-season career with the Red Storm from 1974-1984.
Hofstra enters Friday's match, 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the NEC. The Pride defeated Marist and Towson earlier this season. Last weekend, Hofstra dropped a pair of matches to UNC Wilmington and UC Irvine.
The Red Storm is 3-0 against Hofstra all-time. Last spring St. John's was victorious in a 4-0 sweep in Queens.
Stony Brook is an even 6-6 on the season. The Seawolves will open the weekend against Wagner, before concluding with a third of seven-match homestand. Earlier this week, Stony Brook was swept 4-0 by UC Irvine on Monday in its first home match of the season. The Seawolves are 2-0 in the CAA notching a pair of wins against Monmouth and Towson
The all-time series between the two programs is tied 6-6. The Johnnies have taken the last five matches, including a 4-0 sweep last spring at the USTA Tennis Center.
St. John's will resume BIG EAST play next week traveling to the Midwest for a pair of matches. The Red Storm will take on Marquette on Thursday at 2 p.m. and will then face-off against DePaul on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
