St. John’s in Fifth After 27 Holes at Wildcat Spring Invitational

Three Johnnies shoot 1-over on Monday and sit tied for 11th
GLENSIDE, Pa.- The St. John's men's golf finished the opening day in fifth place out of 15 schools at the Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted by Villanova.
The Red Storm carded a cumulative team score of 11-over during the first round and a half. Villanova, the hosts, currently carry a lead into the with a team mark of 1-under.
The Johnnies have been excellent on the par-5's shooting an event-low 4.6 stroke average and a cumulative score of 10-under on the lengthy holes thus far.
A trio of Johnnies- Ryan Rittberger, Tyler Gerbavsits and Jack Simon led the team all shooting 1-over over the first 27 holes and sit in the 11th place. Simon had a pair of eagles on the day, the most of any of the 95 players in the field. Rittberger and Gerbavsits shot a team best even par, 72, in the opening round. Rittberger has made par on 18 of his 27 holes played.
Brendan Smith checks in next for St. John's at 8-over and tied for 56th. Peicheng Chen rounds out the team's line-up at 12-over, tied for 77th.
Individual competitor who led the team at this event last year, Gage Wolfle, sits in 73rd and 11-over through 27 holes.
The final nine holes will take place tomorrow from Glenside, Pa. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
