Women’s Tennis Travels to Seton Hall for Regular Season Finale

Yesica de Lucas has a team-leading 28 total wins this season
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team will travel to Seton Hall for its regular season finale match on Friday at 1 p.m. at The Campus Courts at Ivy Hill Park.
Last week the Red Storm dropped a pair of matches on its trip to the Midwest. The Johnnies fell to Marquette on Thursday, 6-1, and were edged 4-3 by DePaul on Saturday. Mouna Bouzgarrou notched four wins on the weekend in singles and doubles combined, the only Johnnie to accomplish the feat this weekend. Yesica de Lucas picked up a pair of wins against DePaul on Saturday to join Bouzgarrou as the only ones with two wins against the Blue Demons.
de Lucas has been very impressive this season, compiling a 28-7 overall record. The graduate student is 16-3 in singles matches, boasting a 13-2 record in the No. 2 slot. The Alcala de Henares, Spain native is 12-4 in doubles matches with three different teammates. She teamed up with Jayden Nielsen to win BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week on January 30th.
Two pairs of Johnnies have totaled seven wins each as a duo. Bouzgarrou and Emilie Haakansson have won nine out of 10 matches, while de Lucas and Jayden Nielsen are 8-4. Camila Ordonez and Willa Bay Breunich are 5-4 as a duo. Bouzgarrou is also 13-3 in doubles matches with Haakansson and Lalita Devarakonda.
Three Johnnies have totaled double-digit wins in singles play. de Lucas leads the way with a 16-3 overall record. Bouzgarrou is second on the team with 12 wins and Devarakonda is the third Johnnie in double-digits with 10. Willa Bay Breunich and Amaya Lopez have totaled eight wins each.
Head Coach Lauren Leo earned her 100th career-win at the helm of the St. John's Red Storm against Villanova on Feb. 24. Leo is the second head coach in program history to reach the milestone. Leo has now totaled 105 career wins with the Johnnies. Sheila Wildermuth owns the program record with 149 total wins in her 10-season career with the Red Storm from 1974-1984.
Seton Hall also dropped a pair of matches in the Midwest last weekend to DePaul and Marquette. The Pirates have not won a conference match this season (0-4) are enter their final game of the regular season slate, 6-11. Oliwia Kempinski leads the Pirates with 20 wins this spring, with 11 in singles play. Hiba El Khalifi is the other Pirate with a double-digit singles win total this season sporting a 10-5 singles record.
St. John's is 19-2 against Seton Hall all-time. The Red Storm swept the Pirates last spring in Queens and are currently on a three-match winning streak against The Hall. The Johnnies are 5-1 in program history in South Orange.
Up next for St. John's will be the BIG EAST Championships. The four-day event starts on April 20 in Cayce, S.C. at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. Seeding will be announced next week.
