The Red Storm will return home for its first BIG EAST game in Queens after starting league play with two consecutive road trips. Last time out, the Johnnies fell at Marquette, 20-10, in Milwaukee. A season-high nine different players scored for the Red Storm including a pair of players- Kyle Wasilewski and Trevor Batastini tallying their first career goals.
Inside the cage, Kyle Munson tallied 14 stops against the Golden Eagles marking the fourth-straight game the senior has tallied 13 saves or more. The Long Island native is averaging 13.2 saves per contest, which ranks second in the conference and 16th in NCAA Division I as of April 14.
Sophomore attackman Brian Kelly continues to lead the squad with a team-high 36 points (20 G's, 16 A's) on the year. The Red Hook, N.Y., native is riding at 12-game point streak, dating back to last season.
Denver enters the game with a record of 6-4 and continues to rise in the national polls. In its last BIG EAST battle, the Pioneers defense swallowed the then-No. 9/9 Villanova attack allowing the Wildcats to take just 18 shots in a 12-6 home victory. The Pioneers will have a quick turnaround after battling Towson Thursday night and taking a 12-10 victory in Maryland.
Reigning Defensive Player of the Week Jack DiBenedetto anchors the Denver backline that ranks eighth in the country in scoring defense allowing just 9.9 goals per game.
Since the Pioneers joined the conference in 2014, the schools have clashed nine times with the 2015 National Champions taking every meeting. In 2022 out in the Mile High City, the Pioneers won 18-4 on April 16. Caleb Zuhoski logged a career-high three helpers and Braden Fitzsimmons fired in his first collegiate goal at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
Saturday marks the first of two games at Belson Stadium to conclude the Johnnies' home slate. The squad will host Georgetown on April 22 for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
