St. John’s Falls to Villanova

The Red Storm will conclude the series on Sunday at noon
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 15, 2023) – The St. John's softball team dropped the second game of the weekend series to Villanova, 12-0 in five innings, on Saturday afternoon at Red Storm Field.
The Red Storm (15-21, 4-10 BIG EAST) were never able to get anything going against the Wildcats (24-18, 9-5). St. John's used all four of its pitchers in the contest.
Anese Thompson extended her on-base streak to 15 games with a single in the fourth inning.
The Wildcats got on the board early pushing across two runs in the first inning. With two runners on, Victoria Sebastian laced a two-RBI double to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
Villanova broke open the lead in the third inning tacking on six runs on five hits. A three-run homer by Ryan Henry and a solo shot by Ava Franz lifted the Wildcats in the frame.
The Johnnies best scoring chance came in the fourth inning. A pair of back-to-back singles by Thompson and Peyton Cody led off the frame. The Wildcats calmed the scoring chance by the Johnnies by retiring the side to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, the Wildcats added four runs to put the game out of reach. Tess Cites knocked her fourth hit, a three-run round-tripper over the fence in left to extend the lead to 12-0.
The third and final game of the series will continue tomorrow with a noon start at Red Storm Field.
