St. John’s Gears up for Mountaineer Invitational

Red Storm to play in third tournament in as many weeks
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's men's golf team gears up for its third invitational in as many weeks when it partakes in the Mountaineer Invitational
The 54-hole tournament will tee off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va. and at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Red Storm will compete in a competitive 13 team field with Coastal Carolina, Drexel, James Madison, Marshall, Maryland, Oklahoma State, UT-Martin, VCU, Western Carolina, West Virginia William & Mary and Xavier.
The par-72 track nestled inside the West Virginia mountains will play at 7,308 yards. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
In its last time out, the Johnnies came in fifth out of 15 squads at the Wildcat Spring Invitational in Glenside, Pa.
Tyler Gerbavsits led the charge for the Red Storm logging a sixth place finish and a 36-hole score of even par.
Sophomore Peicheng Chen took home the hardware the week prior at the Southern Invitational on April 3-4. Chen shot a team-best 10-under par to take home the title at the Falls Club in Palm Beach, Fla.
Jack Simon, Ryan Rittberger and Brendan Smith will fill out the rest of the Johnnies' line-up. Gage Wolfle will compete as an individual.
Following this event, first-year Head Coach Phil Wildermuth and his squad will ready for the BIG EAST Championships on April 28-30 in Hardeeville, S.C.
