Jack Simon sunk a hole-in-one at Pete Dye Golf Club
BRIDGEPORT, W. Va,- The St. John's men's golf team concluded the first day of the Mountaineer Invitational in seventh place in the 13-team field.
The Red Storm shot 32-over as a team at Pete Dye Golf Club to currently sit seventh out of 13 schools. 11-time National Champions Oklahoma State hold a sizeable lead at 5-over as a squad.
Play was suspended due to darkness with most teams having played the majority of the second round.
In the second round, Jack Simon charged up the leader board on the heels of a hole-in-one on the par-3 seventh hole and logged a team-low 2-under with three holes to play in his second round. He will head into tomorrow's competition tied for seventh place. Simon leads the field with seven birdies through the competition so far and is the only player to record an ace and one of five players to record an eagle.
In the opening round, Peicheng Chen led the way for the Johnnies shooting a 1-under, 71, and sat in 3rd place in the 80-player field. In the following round, the sophomore is 5-over through 15 holes and now checks in tied for 14th on the leaderboard with a cumulative mark of 4-over.
Tyler Gerbavsits completed all 36 holes and finished at 10-over and was stellar in his second round. The graduate student shot an even par, 72, and sunk five birdie putts.
The conclusion of the second and final rounds are scheduled to begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
