The Red Storm returns to action with a doubleheader against Sacred Heart on Thursday

QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's softball team fell against Manhattan, 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Red Storm Field.

The Red Storm (17-26, 6-12 BIG EAST) fell into an early deficit against Manhattan (7-33, 2-10 NEC) and was unable to recover.

Sydney Totarsky provided a spark for the Johnnies recording a two-hit game for the squad. Her first career triple plated the only two Red Storm runs of the day.

Jess Bianco stole three bases after registered two hits against the Jaspers. Bianco's 28 stolen bags leads the Johnnies.

The Jaspers struck early, putting up the first seven runs of the ballgame. In the first inning, Manhattan posted a pair of runs after the first two Jaspers reached on a double and a walk. Manhattan scored their first run on a double steal and scored the second on an RBI-single.

In the third inning, Manhattan added on five runs on six hits. The Jaspers led off the frame with four consecutive singles, all of which scored.

The Red Storm pushed two runs across in the sixth inning, to cut the deficit to 7-2. Totarsky hit her first collegiate triple to plate a pair of Johnnies. Sabrina Seaton led of the inning with a seeing-eye single and Katie Whittaker was hit by a pitch to set the table for Totarsky.

Manhattan starter Molly Charest shut the door on the Red Storm in the seventh inning. Charest logged just her second complete game of the season in her second win. The junior struck out six Johnnies in her seven innings of work.

St. John's will be back in action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Sacred Heart. Game one is set to start at 2:30 p.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after.
