St. John’s Opens Week with Pair of Non-Conference Foes

The Red Storm continues its nine-game homestand
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 25, 2023) – The St. John's softball team will continue its nine-game home stand with a trio of games against Manhattan and Sacred Heart opening on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Red Storm Field.
Wednesday's game will be an audio-stream only and Thursday's doubleheader will be on FloSoftball. Both game will have Live Stats by StatBroadcast.
The Red Storm will enjoy a six-straight non-conference games before its final BIG EAST series of the regular season at Creighton on May 5-7.
Last weekend, the Johnnies took two of three from Georgetown in a pivotal series with BIG EAST Tournament implications. In the first two games, the Red Storm mounted a comeback in both capped by a pair of back-to-back home runs on Saturday.
Peyton Cody looks to extend her hitting streak to the longest by a Johnnie this season. She currently sits at six, with the longest of seven by Bianco.
Jess Bianco has developed a reputation in the BIG EAST for being a speedster. The quick, slap-hitting lefty is second in the nation among freshman with 24 stolen bases. She also ranks 22nd overall in the nation and third in the BIG EAST.
Freshman Loreley Francia has emerged as one of the best options on the staff. The Spring, Tex. native fired 10.1 innings at a 1.35 ERA and struck out 14 Hoyas on the weekend. In the BIG EAST she touts team-low in ERA (2.79), and batting average against (.223).
Bob Guerriero is in his fifth year as head coach of the St. John's Softball team and is assisted by Grace Kramer and Marissa Rizzi. Kramer, a 2017 St. John's graduate, is in her fourth season as an assistant coach while Rizzi, a 2020 graduate, is in her second season as a coach as a part of the Red Storm program.
Manhattan enters the week on a 10-game losing streak after dropping a pair of MAAC home doubleheader tilts to Niagara and Canisius. The Jaspers swept Fairfield for its first conference wins of the season.
Gabriela Mazzotta leads the speedy Jaspers with 10 stolen bases, 15 runs batted in, and 60 total bases. In the circle, Sophia Kiseloski has manned the circle, logging 100 innings, 57 strikeouts and has notched eight complete games.
Head Coach Cat Clifford is in her eighth season in the Jaspers program. 2023 is her second season at the helm of the program.
The Johnnies lead the all-time series with the Jaspers, 16-11-1. The Red Storm are currently on a 7-0 home winning streak are 7-0 at Red Storm Field against Manhattan. The Jaspers were victorious last spring with a 2-0 win in The Bronx.
Sacred Heart dropped a three-game series at Wagner last weekend. The Pioneers are currently sixth in the NEC. The Pioneers play six games this week, first at Fairfield on Wednesday. Their weekend NEC series is set to start off against LIU on Saturday.
Alyssa Gonzalez has been the main power supply for the Pioneers with 13 home runs and 33 RBIs and is slugging .687. Amy Petrovich leads the team with a .350 batting average and a .433 on-base percentage. Sam Kowalski has logged 119 innings in the circle, notching eight wins, 12 complete games, 108 strikeouts and a 3.65 ERA.
Head Coach Pam London enters her 35th season on the coaching staff and her fourth at the helm of the program.
