Women’s Tennis Falls at Marquette, 6-1

The Red Storm will stay in the Midwest for a Saturday battle at DePaul
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Marquette on Thursday afternoon at Elite Sports Club – River Glen.
St. John's suffered its first loss in conference play, dropping to 4-1 in the BIG EAST and 11-7 overall. Marquette improves to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Red Storm dropped the doubles point after the Golden Eagles took two of three matches. The duo of Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou took a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 slot against Giulia Turconi and Tiana Windbuchler. Jayden Nielsen and Yesica de Lucas forced a tight match, but ultimately fell, 7-5 in the point-clinching match for the Golden Eagles.
In singles play, Bouzgarrou picked up her second win on the day and notched a straight-set victory in the No. 3 pairing against Julianne Bou. de Lucas forced three sets but dropped just her third contest of the season, 2-6, 6-1, 5-7 to Elisabeth Desmarais. Amaya Lopez dropped a pair of tight sets, 2-6, 5-7 in the fourth spot. Willa Bay Breunich battled Emma Davis but ultimately fell in a tight pair of sets, 5-7, 6-7 (7-5).
St. John's will complete its two-match Midwest road trip with a match at DePaul. Doubles play is slated to start at 1:30 p.m. at the XS Village.
