Simon will become the first Red Storm player to compete in the NCAA Tournament in nine years
QUEENS, N.Y.- For the first time in nine years, a St. John's men's golfer will compete in the NCAA Tournament as BIG EAST Individual Champion Jack Simon prepares for the Bath Regional at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Michigan.Â
Â
Simon will take the course for the three-round 54-hole event on May 15-17. The veteran will compete in a loaded field comprised of 13 teams and 10 individuals from across the country. The top-five teams and one individual competitor from the regional will advance to the NCAA Tournament Finals in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 26-31.Â
Â
The regional site, Eagle Eye Golf Club, is a par-71,  7,126-yard track located in Bath, Mich., nearby to Michigan State, the hosts of this year's regional. Bath is one of six regional sites with the others in Auburn, Ala., Las Vegas, Keowee Falls, S.C., Norman, Okla., and Morgan Hill, Calif.Â
Â
The Sparta, N.J., native captured the co-conference title with Marquette's Bhoom Sima-Aree after shooting 3-under over 54 holes at Riverton Pointe Golf Club. After sinking a miraculous birdie putt on the 18th, Simon triumphed in the one-hole playoff to claim the league's automatic bid to regionals.Â
Â
In his fifth year with the program, Simon is enjoying the strongest season of his tenure with the Red Storm. The Johnnie has logged a career-low 72.6 stroke average over 11 events this season, which ranks eighth best in the BIG EAST. Coming into form this spring, Simon has placed in the top-15 in each of his last four tournaments, capped off with the medalist finish at the BIG EAST Championships on Apr. 28-30 in Hardeeville, S.C, the first of his career.Â
Â
Earlier this week, Simon was recognized by the conference and named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. This marked the second time he has garnered all-league honors after being named to the league's second team back in 2021.
Â
Simon will become the first Red Storm player to play in a regional since the Johnnies qualified as a team in 2014 and the eighth individual competitor in St. John's history. Nine years ago, former BIG EAST Champion and fellow New Jersey native Ryan McCormick tallied a team-best 28h place at the Auburn Regional.
Â
The last Johnnie to compete as an individual on this stage was St. John's Hall of Famer and major champion Keegan Bradley, who tallied an 87th place at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., back in 2008.
Â
Live results of the regional will be available throughout all three rounds on GolfStat.
