Simon finishes the first 18 holes at 6-over
BATH, Mich.- St. John's men's golfer Jack Simon completed his opening round at the NCAA Regionals on Monday afternoon.
Simon finished his first 18 holes at Eagle Eye Golf Club with a 6-over, 77, and currently sits tied for 74th place.
Stepping up to the first tee, Simon became the first Red Storm player to compete on the NCAA Tournament stage since the team qualified in 2014.
After an opening hole bogey, the fifth-year player tallied a pair of pars before sinking a 15-footer for birdie on the 591-yard par-5. Four-straight pars kept the Sparta, N.J., native at even before a double-bogey on the 9th hole set him back to a 2-over, 37 on the front nine.
In the latter half of the round, Simon bogeyed three of the next four holes before firing in a birdie putt on the par-4 15th. The veteran recorded two bogeys and a par on the final three holes to card a 6-over, 77, for the day.
Simon will tee off for round two at the Bath Regional tomorrow morning.
