St. John’s Sits Fifth Heading into Final Day of BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Berit Friedenbach and Meghan Ladd set the outdoor program record in the pole vault
VILLANOVA, Pa.- The St. John's track and field team completed its second day of events at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Villanova Stadium on Friday.
The jumps team kicked off Friday's action as Cassandra Lemus-Sodji led the way for the Johnnies in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.91 meters. Ioanna Kyprianou posted a new career-best mark with a jump of 5.20 meters. Ashley Sadler made her conference championships debut with a mark of 5.14, good for 14th place.
The women's 1,500-meter run followed, and senior Claire Cushing got her meet off to a solid start, logging a time of 4:33.30 to qualify for Saturday's final round.
The Johnnies put on a strong showing in the 400-meter dash as Chinenye Onuorah, Tatyana McKenzie and Nora Haugen all easily qualified for Saturday's final. Onuorah paced the field with an impressive time of 54.79. McKenzie and Haugen posted marks of 55.99 and 56.09, respectively.
The Red Storm showed out in the pole vault; Berit Friedenbach and Meghan Ladd set a new outdoor program mark by clearing the 3.62-meter bar. Both results mark personal bests for Friedenbach and Ladd.
The sprinters returned to the track later in the afternoon and posted a strong effort in the 100-meter dash. Brooklyn Chestnut and Delicia Bent both posted marks in the top eight, 11.80 and 12.19, respectively, to advance to the final round on Saturday.
The good day for St. John's continued in the 400-meter hurdles as Mandana Vouillemin logged a time of 1:02.11 to finish sixth and reach the final tomorrow.
McKenzie, Chestnut and Onuorah continued their excellent days by qualifying for the 200-meter dash final. McKenzie posted the top time at 24.14, and Chestnut and Onuorah logged marks of 24.29 and 24.42, respectively.
The Red Storm will wrap up the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The final day will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
