12 Johnnies Named to Outdoor Track and Field All-BIG EAST Team

Tatyana McKenzie and Jamora Alves were honored as the high-point performers of the meet

QUEENS, N.Y.- After registering its best finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in over three decades, 12 members of the St. John's track and field team were named to the All-BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Tatyana McKenzie was recognized for her podium finishes in three separate events, winning the 200-meter dash conference title and grabbing second in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. McKenzie garnered BIG EAST Women's Track Most Outstanding Performer and High-Point Performer distinctions for the second consecutive meet after taking both honors at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships in February.

Jamora Alves dominated the conference championships, capturing league crowns in the shot put and discus throws. Alves became the first Johnnie to win multiple throwing events in the outdoor championships since Sheba George in 2002. Alves shared High-Point Performer honors with McKenzie as both student-athletes racked up 20 individual points over the weekend.

Chinenye Onuorah shined against the best in the BIG EAST, capturing the win in the 400-meter dash and helping the 4x400-meter relay quartet to a second-place result. Onuorah's victory in the 400 meters marks the ninth straight meet a Johnnie has earned the top spot in the event.

Rounding out the BIG EAST champions, Brooklyn Chestnut grabbed topped the podium in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.81, matching McKenzie's winning mark in the event in 2022. Chestnut was also integral to the Red Storm's bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay.

Samantha Morillo-Martinez had an excellent performance at the championships, securing silver and bronze medals in the shot put and discus throws, respectively. Her outing marked the second straight conference meet that she earned a medal and the first meet she has earned multiple podium spots.

Berit Friedenbach and Ismini Andreou also received recognition from the BIG EAST for their individual performances in the pole vault and hammer throw, respectively, as both athletes finished third in their events.

Rounding out the All-BIG EAST honorees, Delicia Bent, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji and Tea Siehou were recognized for their contributions to the Red Storm's bronze medal in the 4x100-meter relay, and Nora Haugen and Mandana Vouillemin garnered distinction for their performances in the 4x400-meter relay race as the Johnnies took home a silver medal.
