The Johnnies (3-1-1) enter Monday's contest on the heels of a dramatic 2-1 victory over Saint Peter's on Friday. After the Peacocks took a 1-0 lead into the break, St. John's turned on the jets, tallying 13 of its 24 total shots in the second half.
Graduate striker Max McNulty cashed in with his third goal of the season in the 81st minute, heading home a feed from Lenny Cidolit in the 81st minute. Nearly two minutes later, Macoumba Ba punched home his first career PK in the 83rd minute, 1:50 separating the two tallies. The Louisville transfer also pestered the Peacocks' back line for 81 minutes, providing the Red Storm will key crosses and opportunities.
The Johnnies and Owls will meet for the fourth time in program history with the Red Storm holding an undefeated 3-0-0 record. St. John's has also kept Temple off the scoresheet in all three contests, outscoring the opposition, 4-0.
In its last match on Oct. 8, 2019, the Johnnies capitalized on a crucial Owls' turnover as Rafael Bustamante found a streaking Tani Oluwaseyi in the center of the box, who tapped home the game-winner in the 66th minute for a 1-0 victory. Alistair Johnston and Matt Forster netted goals in the Red Storm's first meeting with Temple (Sept. 9, 2017) while Skage Simonsen netted an overtime winner in the following matchup (Sept. 8, 2018).
Temple enters Monday's matchup with an 0-2-2 record as first-year Head Coach Bryan Green looks for his first win with the program. The Owls have dropped back-to-back contests to Saint Joseph's (3-1) and American (4-1).
In its most recent game against American, Temple struggled to stop the Eagles, who scored three goals in the first half and an extra tally in the 64th minute before breaking the scoreless tie off the foot of Elias Betancourt nearly nine minutes later.
Alongside Betancourt, Gudmundur Neilsson and Nikolai Zapolskikh have also found the back of the net for the Owls through four games.
