Chen Looks to Defend Title at the Macdonald Cup

Red Storm will compete in three-round tournament on Sept. 23-24
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's men's golf team will retake the course this weekend to compete at the Macdonald Cup, hosted by Yale.
Peicheng Chen will look to defend his individual title at the event after shooting 9-under, 201, over 54 holes to finish atop the 72-golfer field in 2022. St. John's finished sixth as a team in last year's event.
The three round, 54-hole event will be played at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.
The Red Storm will compete in a 12-team field against- Bryant, Bucknell, Fairfield, Fordham, Georgetown, Harvard, Le Moyne, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, UC San Diego and the host's Yale.

In their first tournament of the 2023-24 season, the Johnnies tallied a seventh-place finish and their home event, The Doc Gimmler.
Ryan Rittberger shot a team-low 5-under, 65, during the final round at Bethpage Red Course to finish in 12th place.
Chen checked in next for the Johnnies at a 1-under, 210, good for 18th place on Long Island. In 2022-23, the Beijing, China native was a All-BIG EAST First Team selection and posted a team-low 71.9 stroke average as a sophomore.
Newcomer Thomas Finn finished inside the top-30 in his collegiate debut fueled by a 4-under, 66, in the second round of The Doc Gimmler.
Following this weekend's tournament, St. John's will compete in the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on Oct. 1-3.
