Carl Gustavsson and Martin Bugaj set to represent the Red Storm in Tulsa, Okla.
QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2023) – St. John's men's tennis players Carl Gustavsson and Martin Bugaj will take part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships this weekend in Tulsa, Okla.
Both student-athletes are slated to compete in the pre-qualifying, 256-player singles draw at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center beginning on Saturday.
"I'm excited to take Carl and Martin around the country to represent St. John's," said Head Coach Dillon Pottish.
Gustavsson had a strong start to the fall season last weekend, winning two of the three singles matches and both doubles contests he played at the Penn Invite. The junior from Stockholm, Sweden is coming off a 2023 spring season in which he posted a 15-5 singles record and was named an All-BIG EAST First-Team selection.
Bugaj made a splash in his first competition for St. John's in Philadelphia last week, winning three total matches. The graduate transfer from South Alabama won 25 singles contests and 31 doubles matches throughout his four-year tenure in Mobile, Ala.
Last year at this event, Axel Vila Antuna and Diogo Marques represented the Red Storm. Antuna won three matches to advance to the round of 32 while Marques picked up a win of his own.
