St. John’s Finishes 14th at The Battle In Beantown

The Red Storm recorded four personal-best finishes
BOSTON – On a rainy afternoon in Boston, the St. John's cross country team claimed 14th place at the Battle in Beantown, on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
The Red Storm racked up 405 total points en route to its 14th-place finish against some of the nation's top teams. The Johnnies beat out Southern New Hampshire by 47 points.
The Red Storm recorded one top-60 finish at the meet and placed ahead of three other teams.
"We raced well and came out with a few PRs. Claire Cushing and Ezgi Yasar are rounding into shape. We've been thoroughly impressed by Gabriella Caronia and her growth this year," said Head Coach Elliott Blount. "We have a quick turnaround for the Metropolitan Championships but I'm sure we can continue to improve top to bottom."
Cushing continued her impressive graduate campaign, recording a personal best 5K time of 18:16.9 for a team-best 56th place finish. Yasar finished second for the Johnnies taking 107th overall on a time of 19:07.5.
Caronia notched her second top-three finish of the season for the Johnnies, taking 113th with a personal-best time of 19:30.9. Ana Dobsa posted a time of 19:57.8 with a 124th place finish in her first collegiate race. After Dobsa, Hannah Huleatt finished fifth for St. John's with a career-best 5K time of 20:00.8.
Cristina Stanescu and Jenna D'Onofrio rounded out the Johnnies' 14th place effort. Stanescu improved on her 5K time from the LIU Fall Festival by two minutes finishing the meet in 20:41.0. D'Onofino registered a time of 21:19.6.
St. John's will be back on the course next Saturday, Oct 7 for the Metropolitan Championships in Newark, N.J. The annual meet will be hosted by NJIT.
