St. John’s Returns Home to Face Villanova on Sunday

Sunday’s action will start at 1 p.m. from Belson Stadium
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's soccer team will return home to Belson Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on Villanova at 1 p.m.
Austin Rooney will be on the call from Queens for Sunday's conference battle between the Red Storm and the Wildcats.
In its most recent game, St. John's fell at Seton Hall, 1-0, on Thursday night. The Pirates got on the board early capitalizing just 4:51 into the game and held the one-goal lead despite being outshot by the Red Storm, 10-5.
Jailene DeJesus and Isabelle Aviza fired a team-high three shots at Owen T. Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J.
Jessica Garziano remains the league leader in points tallying a career-high 20 (6 goals, 7 assists). The graduate student has recorded at least one point in nine out of 11 contests.
On the year, the Red Storm hold a 5-4-2 record and are searching for its first win in BIG EAST play against the Wildcats.
Villanova heads to Belson Stadium carrying a 4-1-5 record on the 2023 campaign and suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday at No. 24 Xavier, 1-0. In its conference opener, the Wildcats captured a home victory over Seton Hall, 2-1, fueled by tallies from Mikayla Stadler and Maddie Fried.
The all-time series between the two conference foes has been tight-knit over its 37-year history with Villanova holding a slight edge, 14-13-4. The Red Storm have had the upper-hand in recent years, garnering a result in 12 out of the last 13 meetings.
The last game in Queens resulted in the Johnnies fourth-straight victory and earned them a home match in the BIG EAST Tournament after the 2-1 triumph on Oct. 28, 2021. Zsani Kajan and Nicole Gordon provided the goals in the contest at Belson Stadium.
Following Sunday's match at home, St. John's will be back on the road heading to Omaha to meet Creighton on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
