Fencing to Compete in a Pair of Competitions this Weekend

St. John’s to host Invitational and travel to Philadelphia Invite
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams will compete in a pair of competitions this weekend.
On Saturday, the Red Storm will host the St. John's Invitational starting at 10 a.m. inside of Taffner Fieldhouse. The following day, both teams will compete in the Philadelphia Invite set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Results of both events will be available at their conclusion on RedStormSports.com.
In their lone competition at the Brandeis Invitational this season, St. John's enjoyed dominant performances by both the men's and women's teams. Paul Fortin finished with an impressive 16-1 record as the men cruised to a 5-2 mark on the day. The women's team competed to a 6-1 record led by Malwina Kolodziejczyk who registered 19 victories.
The St. John's Invitational will welcome five of the top fencing programs in the country: Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. The six teams have combined to win 32 of the last 33 National Titles. Notre Dame won their third straight title last season.
In last year's Invitational, the women finished in fifth while the men placed sixth. Fares Ferjani paced the men with an 11-3 record in the saber category. Kolodziejczyk led the women with 10 wins in the foil.
Next up, the Red Storm will face off against NJIT, Notre Dame, NYU, Ohio State and Penn in the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday.
