Peicheng Chen finishes tied for third
LEWISBURG, Pa.– The St. John's men's golf team emerged from an 18-team field to take home the title at the Bucknell Invitational on Tuesday.
The Red Storm's team championship marked the program's first team title in nearly two years when it won the Lehigh Invitational on Oct. 21-22, 2022. The Johnnies carded a 15-over, 855, over three rounds and brisk conditions at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
After going into the final round tied with Youngstown State, St. John's strung together a strong final 18 holes to register a 2-over, 282, to win the event by four strokes.
Peicheng Chen continued his scorching hot start tallying another top-3 finish after winning his first two events of the year. The senior finished the event 1-under, 209 and fired a 3-under, 67, in the final round. Trailing the individual champion Devin Smith by just a single-stroke heading into the 18th hole, the reigning BIG EAST Champion took an aggressive approach at the pin but was unable to convert the birdie and just missed out on his third-straight win to start the season.
Freshman Frank Wu recorded an even par, 70, on Tuesday to earn the first top-20 finish of his career checking in at 18th place. The China native finished with a season-low 6-over, 216.
David Mlynek finished inside the top-30 carding an 8-over, 218, at Bucknell Golf Club to help propel the Johnnies' to the title.
The Red Storm will wrap-up its fall slate at the Kapolei Invitational in Hawaii on Oct. 29-31.
