KAPOLEI, Hawaii – The St. John's men's golf team took to the course on Tuesday on the island of Oahu as Peicheng Chen led the charge in the opening round.
The senior shot a 4-under, 68, at Kapolei Golf Club in Hawaii to pace the Red Storm to a 1-over, 289, good for eighth place in the 15-team field.
Chen tallied six birdies, including four over his final five holes to sit tied for fourth place and two shots off the lead in the 87-golfer field after the first round. The Beijing, China native logged the best stroke average on the par-3's recording a 2.50.
David Mlynek enjoyed a solid opening round in Hawaii carding an even par, 72, on Tuesday. The junior flushed birdie putts on two of his final three holes to climb into 24th place.
Freshman Frank Wu had the hole of the day recording an eagle on the first hole, a 562-yard par-5. The rookie was one of just 10 players to card an eagle on Tuesday and finished the round with a 2-over, 74 to check in at 42nd place.
The Red Storm will tee off tomorrow for the second round at 3 p.m. ET, 9 a.m. local time from Kapolei Golf Club. Live results throughout the entire tournament will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
