St. John’s Travels to New England for Matchups with Providence and UConn

The Red Storm swept both season series’ against the Friars and Huskies last year
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's volleyball team will travel to New England this weekend to take on Providence and UConn.
The Red Storm will visit Alumni Hall to take on Providence on Friday at 5 p.m., before heading to Storrs, Conn., for a matchup with UConn on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on FloSports and live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Johnnies are looking to rebound after falling to RV Marquette, 3-1, and No. 6 Creighton, 3-0, inside Carnesecca Arena last weekend.
Lucrezia Lodi notched the second double-double of her season against Marquette last Friday, tallying 12 kills, 12 digs and a service ace in the match. The Italy native followed up her performance by leading St. John's with three blocks along with nine kills at a 33.3 percent hitting rate and six digs against Creighton.
Erin Jones continued her monstrous junior campaign last week, securing a career-high five service aces, four of which were scored in a row in the first set, against Marquette. The Albuquerque, N.M., product also slammed 12 kills paired with seven digs and five assists in the match.
The standout went on to lead the Red Storm offensively against Creighton by posting a match-high 13 kills with four digs, three assists, two blocks and an ace on Saturday.
Jones leads the Johnnies and ranks 13th in points (337), 20th in kills (284) and 23rd in aces (32) nationally, as of Oct. 17.
Wiktoria Kowalczyk continued to rack up assists this past weekend, tallying 35 against Marquette and 25 against Creighton. The Poland native has led St. John's in helpers in 19 of its 20 matches so far this season.
Nationally, Kowalczyk sits 11th with 700 total assists and 66th with 9.72 helpers per set. The setter's 700 assists lead the BIG EAST.
After logging nine kills against Marquette last Friday, Giorgia Walther moved into fifth on the Red Storm's all-time career kill list, totaling 1,414 career slams to surpass Aleksandra Wachowicz. Wachowicz finished her career as a Johnnie with 1,403 career kills in 2014.
St. John's will travel to Providence for the 32nd meeting in the all-time series, before battling UConn for the 33rd time on Saturday evening. St. John's swept its season series' against both teams last season.
The Friars will host the Red Storm with a 7-10 overall record and a 0-6 mark in the BIG EAST. Shaliyah Rhoden holds down Providence's offense, as she has racked up a team-high 187 kills, 62 digs and 18 blocks. Kayla Grant ranks fourth in the BIG EAST with a 36.3 hitting percentage. The middle blocker has earned 130 kills to go along with a team-best 61 total blocks.
The Johnnies haven't surrendered a set to Providence since the 2021 season.
UConn has been blazing hot since the start of the year, boasting a 16-2 overall mark and a 4-2 BIG EAST record. The Huskies only losses this season are to Creighton and Marquette. Emma Werkmeister has been an offensive force for UConn, racking up 224 kills at 3.93 per set, good for third in the BIG EAST. The junior has also posted a conference-leading 40 service aces. Doga Kutlu has produced 632 assists at 9.72 per set which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST.
